Jackass Star was Drunk and Driving over 130 mph During Fatal Car Accident

It looks like “Jackass” star Ryan Dunn’s actions earlier this week have given the successful TV and movie franchise’s moniker a new layer of meaning. According to an accident reconstruction investigation, Dunn was driving between 132-140 mph at the time of his fatal car accident late Sunday night/early Monday morning. This excessive speed can most likely be attributed to his advanced state of inebriation. Toxicology reports indicate that he had a blood alcohol level of .196%, nearly two and a half times the legal limit of .08.

The car accident occurred at around 2:30 am on Monday. Dunn crashed his 2007 Porsche 911 GT3 in the woods near the side of the road, causing it to catch fire. When the police arrived at the scene, the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames. Dunn was 34 years old. He and his passenger, Zachary Hartwell, were pronounced dead at the scene from “blunt and thermal trauma.” Hartwell was also affiliated with the “Jackass” crew and worked as a stunt car driver in one of Bam Margera’s movies. He was 30 years old.

Dunn had posted a photo on his Twitter account several hours before the car accident. It was taken at a bar about a mile from the accident scene, and he had a drink in his hand. The manager of the bar confirmed that Dunn had been drinking there that night, but insisted that he didn’t seem intoxicated when he left the bar.

Fortunately, no other vehicles were involved in this drunk driving car accident. While the deaths of Dunn and Hartwell are sad, it would have been substantially more tragic if their irresponsible actions had resulted in the death of other innocent people who were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
