Viagra, Cialis, & Levitra Lawyers
Viagra is a prescription drug manufactured by drug giant Pfizer that treats erectile dysfunction (ED) and was first introduced in the United States in 1998. Cialis, which is made by Eli Lilly, and Levitra, which is made by GlaxoSmithKline are similar ED drugs, which entered the market months later.
While these drugs are popular and lucrative for their manufacturers, new side effects have been uncovered since their introduction, among the most disturbing being a potential for vision loss and blindness. This potentially disturbing side effect is currently being investigated by the FDA.
Since 2000, the FDA has received over 40 reports of blindness in those who have taken Viagra. Other reports of vision problems related to ED drug use include over sensitivity to light and changes in blue/green color perception. Civil lawsuits have already been filed by those who claim that they’ve been blinded by ED drugs.
Some have argued that the underlying conditions related to ED may also predispose an individual to develop vision problems. What has come to be known as “Viagra blindness” is caused by a condition called nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy, or NAION. The condition restricts blood flow to the optic nerve, which potentially leads to temporary or permanent loss of vision.
A number of other alarming side effects may be caused by the sudden drop in blood pressure resulting from ED drug use, including hypertension, heart attacks and death.
If you or a loved one is currently taking Viagra, Cialis or Levitra and subsequently developed vision problems, you may wish to contact an experienced lawyer who can evaluate your case to determine your legal rights and options.
