Parasailing Accident Lawyers

Personal Injury Lawyers - Representing People Nationwide

Parasailing is undoubtedly a thrilling experience. Parasailing technology has also made marked advancements over the years. But the parasailing business lacks industry standards and has no official licensing requirements, so your safety largely depends on the parasailing concern you choose.

There is inherent risk in parasailing, and even the most reputable companies are not immune to the potential for an accident. But by diligently researching the parasailing venues you are considering using, you can minimize the overall risk you will be exposed to.

When planning your next parasailing adventure, it is highly advisable to verify, at minimum, the following information about the parasailing company you are considering entrusting your life to:

  • The amount of time it been in business
  • Whether it licensed by the respective state and city or county, and safety certified
  • If the location in which the parasailing will take place is well established
  • Whether the boat’s captain is U.S. Coast Guard licensed (recommended)

In a September 7, 2009 in which a mother and son were seriously injured in a Lake Powell parasailing accident, the police issued a citation to the boat operator. Federal regulations require a permit to parasail in National Park Systems. It happens that the accident took place in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, which does not issue permits for parasailing in part because of past accidents.

It is also advisable not to parasail if strong winds or rough water conditions are expected. It appears that strong winds that had been forecasted by the local media at least contributed to another recent tragedy still under investigation as of January 2010.

Parasailing accidents can occur even under the best of circumstances. The legal issues surrounding a parasailing accident case, however, can be complicated, and may involve the applicability of negligence, product, and/or premises liability law.

If you or a loved one has been involved in a parasailing accident, you may be entitled to compensation, even if a waiver was signed. Contact a qualified and experienced personal injury attorney for an evaluation of your case.
