Lemon Laws in the USA

Are you driving a lemon car, truck, SUV, motorcycle or boat? The state lemon laws could help you get rid of that lemon! The lemon laws are different in each state, so please click on the name of the state to access relevant statutory authority.

Terms regarding repair attempts and coverage period are set by whichever condition occurs first (1 year or 12,000 miles, whichever occurs first), unless otherwise indicated. Days out of service refers to calendar days, unless otherwise indicated.

Success in using state lemon laws depends upon three things: keeping good records, providing the right notice, and using arbitration programs where required. It is important to document the transaction as auto manufacturers and dealers are professionals and most will do just about whatever it takes to win.

The information present in this article and following table should only be used as a guide. Specific questions should be directed to a qualified lemon laws attorney licensed in your state. Nothing in this summary should be construed as legal advice.
