Woman Falls From Cruise Ship; Still Missing - Tuesday, May 13, 2008

In Atlantic City, New Jersey, the United States Coast Guard had to stop searching for a female passenger who fell overboard from a cruise ship off the Atlantic coast on Mother's Day. According to the Coast Guard, the ship was 45 miles northeast of Atlantic City when the woman fell overboard around 7:50 p.m. May 11.

The Norwegian Dawn was headed from Manhattan to Bermuda when the 46-year-old woman went overboard. Her name and where she lived has not yet been released. According to a statement made by the cruise line, the ship immediately began a search and rescue operation. On Monday, while the Coast Guard was searching for her, winds were over 50 mph, and the combination of heavy rain and wind prevented the search from continuing.

Thimerosal and Autism Update - Monday, May 12, 2008

Approximately 5,000 Americans have sued the government due to claims that vaccines causing Thimerosal have caused autism in their children. Thimerosal is a chemical that has been used in vaccines for over 8 decades and has been the topic of controversy for years. Thimerosal contains mercury, which is the second most toxic substance in the world. Due to its adverse effects, Thimerosal was banned from OTC medications ten years ago in 1998, and in 1999 was withdrawn from vaccines due to allegations of causing autism.

Though studies claim there is no link between Thimerosal and autism, evidence seems to indicate otherwise. As the number of vaccinations has increased since the 1980's so have the number of instances of autism in children to a staggering 1 in 250.

The figures that indicate the link between the chemical and autism have led to a number of lawsuits. Claims have been made against the company that makes Thimerosal, and now families of autistic children are suing the government.

Lawyers for the families will try to prove that vaccines containing Thimerosal deposit mercury in the brain and this excites brain cells that stay activated trying to fight the intrusion. In some children, there is enough mercury to set off a neuroinflammatory pattern that can lead to autism.
