Alaska Auto Insurance Attorney

The state of Alaska requires automobile drivers to purchase bodily injury liability coverage and property damage liability coverage. At a minimum, the driver must have bodily injury liability coverage of at least $50,000 per person injured in any one accident and $100,000 total for all persons injured in any one accident. Additionally, the driver must have a minimum of $25,000 property damage liability coverage for the destruction of the property of others as a result of an automobile accident. This is often represented as 50/100/25 coverage.

Automobile drivers have the option of purchasing uninsured/underinsured motorist bodily injury coverage. In Alaska, uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage is combined. This type of insurance is meant to cover bodily injuries caused by an uninsured/underinsured driver. Even though this coverage is optional, if a person chooses to purchase uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage, the policy must provide minimum bodily injury liability coverage of $50,000 per person involved in any one accident and $100,000 total for all persons injured in any one accident. If a person purchases bodily injury insurance coverage in an amount greater than the above minimum coverage requirements, the same amount of uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage must also be purchased.
