Transportation Secretary: “Don’t Drive Recalled Toyotas” - Wednesday, February 3, 2010
In a recent statement, Department of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood urged Toyota owners to stop driving the vehicles affected by the recall until they can be repaired. In recent weeks, Toyota has recalled millions of defective autos which have experienced problems with sticking gas pedals. As a result of the defect, these vehicles have the potential to accelerate uncontrollably.
Earlier this week, Toyota announced that they have figured out a solution to the problem. The pedal assembly will be reinforced to eliminate the excess friction causing the gas pedal to stick. The auto manufacturer has already started shipping replacement parts to dealers, who are expected to put in extra hours in order to repair the recalled vehicles.
Toyota plans to start contacting owners of defective vehicles this week to inform them of the recall protocol. All repair costs will be covered by the auto manufacturer. Vehicles affected by the recall include:
- 2009-2010 RAV4, Corolla, Matrix
- 2005-2010 Avalon
- 2007-2010 Camry, Tundra
- 2010 Highlander
- 2008-2010 Sequoia
