Track Accident Kills Two Maryland Metro Workers - Tuesday, January 26, 2010
Two Metro workers died last night after being hit by a maintenance truck on a track. The two men were installing safety equipment on the track at the time of the work-related accident. One man died at the accident scene, and the other died in transit to the hospital.
Last night's accident is the latest in a series of catastrophic incidents that has hit the DC Metro system in the past year. The most serious incident was a train accident last June which killed eight passengers and a train operator. Two other work-related accidents resulted in the death of two Metro employees over the past year as well.
Last month, Metro narrowly avoided another fatal accident when a group of inspectors were almost hit by a train that was traveling at unsafe speeds. In November, a train returning to the rail yard hit a parked train, injuring three workers.
In response to the recent string of accidents, Metro held a three day safety workshop just two weeks ago. Unfortunately, their efforts to improve safety conditions haven't helped prevent these avoidable accidents.
If you have lost a loved one in a work-related accident, you may be entitled to receive compensation through a wrongful death lawsuit. It is important to consult an experienced attorney who can make sure you do not miss important filing deadlines.
