Popular Toy Recalled Due to Defect in Product - Thursday, August 13, 2009

When we purchase something for ourselves or our families from a retail store, we like to think that the product is safe, especially when we buy something for our small children. Unfortunately, however, products that make their way to the market are not always safe. Toys are actually a very commonly-recalled product. Design or manufacturing defects in toys are especially frightening because a defective product in a child's hands can have fatal results.

On August 13, 2009, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the agency created in 1972 to protect consumers from risks of injuries associated with consumer products, announced that Little Tikes of Hudson, Ohio would voluntarily recall the product Little Tikes Workshops Sets and Trucks due to oversized, plastic toy nails that have posed a choking hazard to small children. It is estimated that close to 2 million workshop sets have been sold nationwide.

At the time of this writing, there has been an injury reported; an 11-month old boy from South Carolina choked when a nail from the toy set became lodged in his throat. Thankfully, the child has made a full recovery.

If you have this toy in your home, you should immediately take it away from your children and put it out of their reach. You can contact the Little Tikes company to get replacement parts.

If your child, or someone you know, has been harmed by a defective product, please contact the CPSC today to make your report.

An experienced product liability attorney can advise of your rights if your child has been harmed or has died due to a defective toy.
