Actor Dennis Quaid Settles Medical Malpractice Lawsuit involving Children - Thursday, July 2, 2009
In November 2007, Dennis Quaid's newborn twins were given lethal doses of Heparin, a blood thinning agent. The newborns nearly died as a result of the mistake, but also brought something that has happened to several new parents' children over the last couple of years to the forefront.
For their part, the Quaids filed a medical malpractice lawsuit with a personal injury lawyer to recover compensation for the injuries the twins suffered, which was recently settled.
In the settlement, the hospital agreed to pay the Quaids $500,000 for the medical malpractice that occurred. Heparin is usually given to adults as a blood thinner during surgery or dialysis to prevent clots, but when given to small children and infants, the drug can be lethal.
