Indiana ATV Accident Leaves One Dead, One Hospitalized - Friday, May 29, 2009

A man and a female passenger were riding an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) around in the early morning hours when they collided with a utility pole and newspaper-vending box in Indiana this week. Neither the driver nor the passenger was wearing helmets at the time of the accident.

According to the coroner's report, the man died at the scene as a result of blunt-force trauma to the head and chest. The female passenger was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital for treatment. Witnesses say the ATV was moving very quickly when it stuck the vending box and utility pole and then threw the riders off. Police officials are ruling the death an accident.
